We continue to develop new songs and look forward to recording some new creations. Since James joined we have a touch more electric guitar that has added to our distinctive sound. Perhaps his Scots ancestry gives his playing, and solos, a Celtic feel - a bit “Big Country”.
A song we have worked on is called “Your Hands Can Heal My Head”. It needs to be played in a stadium, in front of a sea of swaying phone torches!! It's James' guitar that really makers this an atmospheric special one.
On Saturday 1st March we played our first gig with James, our new guitarist. The Club Inn, Endmoor, kindly booked us in and we played our longest set yet. Thank you to all at The Club Inn.
It was such an enjoyable evening and a precursor to Kendal Rocks on Sunday 9th March (at The Venue, Kendal). We had very positive feedback ("One of the best bands they've heard), and we're being booked to play a return gig this year.
Unfortunately, back in October 2024, our guitarist Neil moved on to pastures new. This is an ever-present challenge to all bands, as lives move on, personal situations change and bands have to evolve.
We started looking immediately for a new guitarist. Neil had done a brilliant job, had played on our new album “Colours Flood Back” and we were ready to get out gigging. We needed a replacement ASAP and (miracle of miracles) that's what we managed to achieve.
In no time we had found James, our new guitarist (and youngest band member!). What's more, by sheer coincidence, also next door neighbour to our bassist Paul - uncanny!
James brought his own style to our band and has added some wonderful Telecaster parts. We pay tribute to James (a seasoned bass player), as he applied to be a rhythm guitarist but finds himself landed with more than a few solos. He's done a brilliant job!!!.
We are so pleased that our second album was released; after a long time in the writing, practicing, recording, editing, revising blah, blah blah!
Bands are tricky things to keep together. We've been so lucky that Paul (Mr Original Southern Edge) has stuck playing, suggesting and adding amazing bass lines. Seb, (whose lead vocals are glorious) is second longest serving Southern Edger. Steve, various song-writing, mandolin, mandola, rhythm guitar and backing vocals is next, followed by Neil on brilliant lead guitar. Finally, we found a star drummer in Tommy. We all contribute and have had a brilliant time creating “Colours Flood Back”.
That's the band. However, without the magic and skill of Andris Kiss, sound engineer and great friend to the band, we would not have got this far. Thank you Andris @Andriskissproducer
Sunday 21st July saw the long-awaited release of our 2nd album.
“Colours Flood Back” has 8 catchy, memorable and varied songs that mark a further development in the Southern Edge sound evolution.
We're 5 mature guys who have brought our long and interesting music experiences to the recording of this gem. It has taken some time to get to this release, but we're proud of what we've created and love playing these tracks live.
